Soldier kills family of three, LG chairman calls for calm

The Chairman, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, Alhaji Suleiman Yarima, has appealed to the people of Babanna to remain calm, after a soldier reportedly killed three members of a Beninoise family in the area.

He said the Nigerian Army was on top of the situation.

Meanwhile according to reports, a resident, Audu Alkali, said the three victims were a man, his wife and their child.

He said, “The soldier killed three people, a man, his wife, and their baby when they went to Babanna Market from Niganji, Benin Republic, to trade. The incident happened on their way back.

“The man and the soldier were engaged in an argument when the soldier threatened the man with a gun. In the process, he shot the man, killing the three of them on the spot.

Yarima said a delegation had been sent to Benin Republic to console with the family of the deceased, adding that investigation was ongoing.
