UPDATED: WhatsApp Services Restored Hours After Global Outage

WhatsApp services have been restored hours after it experienced a major outage that hit millions of users.

The popular messaging, photo and video sharing platform was restored on Tuesday morning after it suffered an outage that caused chaos for users in Nigeria and worldwide.

Radiojagaban had earlier reported that, several users of the Meta-owned service were experiencing a glitch or difficulty sending or receiving messages as many took to other platforms to express their frustrations.

Users had in the early hours of Tuesday said they could not send or receive new messages and the system showed a constant “connecting” message.

Website DownDetector, which tracks reports of outages, logged thousands of reported issues, and WhatsApp users also took to Twitter to complain about the problems with the service.

However, Meta, the parent company of the social messaging platform in a statement said it was working to restore the messaging service as quickly as possible. It resumed service shortly before 10am.
