Again, Nigerian varsity students have been given a hope for resumption as president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, said, the union has seen light at the end of the tunnel.

Professor Osodeke stated this while hailing the House of Representatives for its intervention in the long-drawn-out crisis between university lecturers and the Federal Government.

“for the first time, we have seen light at the end of the tunnel.” Prof Osodeke said.

This comes as the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, briefed the leadership of ASUU about his recent meetings with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), over the crisis.

Gbajabiamila said he expected that the strike would be called off “in matter of days.”

Counsel for ASUU, Femi Falana, had on Monday also stated that his clients were ready to call off the strike.

In a statement, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria also called on the Federal Government to fast track and finalise its negotiations with ASUU while expressing confidence that the meeting between the Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, and the presidency over the matter, would yield positive results.

“Our clients are ready to call off the strike. The Federal Government should fast track the and finalise the negotiations.” The Senior Advocate, Falana said.
