Court Sacks Taraba APC governorship Candidate

A Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo, has nullified the primary election that produced the Taraba APC governorship Candidate.

Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, was on 19th May, 2022, declared winner of the governorship primary election by Chief Lawrence Onuchukwu.

However, Onuchukwu had, on Thursday, 19th May, 2022, declared that the election did not hold in the state

Dissatisfied with the conduct of the election, an aggrieved aspirant, Hon. David Kente, dragged the party and its candidate to court.

Chief Kente prayed the court to restrain the INEC from recognizing Bwacha as the governorship candidate of APC, Taraba state.

Ruling on the matter today, the presiding Judge, Justice Simon Amobeda, nullified the election.

He directed that a fresh governorship primary election be conducted within 14 days. 

The Judge also ordered Bwacha to stop parading himself as the governorship candidate of the APC. 

Justice Amobeda also told the APC to adhere strictly to the provisions of the new electoral act in the conduct of a fresh primary. 

Festus K. Idepefor, who is the counsel to Sen. Bwacha, while reacting to the ruling said he will contact Bwacha on their next course of action. 

The nullified Taraba APC governorship Candidate was a member of PDP before he defected to APC and become the party’s governorship flag bearer.
