Court remands fake Reverend sister for child trafficking

A magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has arraigned a suspected fake Reverend sister, Maureen Wechenwu for alleged child trafficking.

Wechenwu, 44, was arrested on September 3rd at her camp in Omuigwe Abuja phase II, Aluu, in Ikwerre local government Area and arraigned Thursday, on 42-count charge (PMC No/ 13739) bordering on Murder and Child trafficking.

Wuchenwu had hosted several children at her camp which she claimed was an orphanage home.

Following her arrest, fifteen children have been recovered while she confesses to have bought each of them between N50,000 and N100,000.

Five of them were however taken from mentally challenged mothers, she added.

Receiving the matter raised by ASP N. Chighewu (the prosecutor), the Chief magistrate, Menenen Poromon adviced that the prosecution team separates the charges as he lacked jurisdiction to address the charge bordering on Murder.

According to him, the matter should be referred to the Director of Public Protection for investigation before adjourning to December 10 for the DPPs advice.

He further adjourned the case till October, 2022.
