Following the torrential rainfall being experienced in some states in Nigeria, no less than 200 households have been affected by flood in Benue State.

This was made known Wednesday, by the Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Emmanuel Shior while distributing  monthly relief materials to some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Makurdi.

Dr. Shior listed some of the affected communities to include those located along Naka road, Achusa, Utur phase 1, Kucha Utebe as well as Rice Mill.

He, however, said that the agency is closely monitoring the situation.

We have recorded over 200 households affected by the flooding. There are still there because the water has receded but we are closely monitoring the situation that has affected people at Naka road, Achusa, Utur phase 1, Kucha Utebe as well as Rice Mill.”, he said.

Commenting on those rendered homeless by the Herdsmen’s incessant attacks, Shior bemoamed the continued neglect of the victims numbering over two million, by the Federal Government.

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday stated that the flood this year is the worst in ten years, based on the figures at its disposal.

Mustapha Habib Ahmed, who is the Director General of NEMA, stated this in his address at a one-day strategic workshop with Disaster Risk Management stakeholders in Abuja.

According to him, more than 100 communities are affected daily within the country.

In a related development, it has been reported that the government of the Republic of Cameroon has started releasing content from their dam.
