Adamawa man sodomizes minor
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Kawu Sale, for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old boy.
Kawu, who hails from Tsohon Tike community in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area, was arrested Thursday, for committing the crime.
The Adamawa State’s Police Public Relations Officers, Suleiman Nguroje, made this known in a statement released on Friday.
According to him the suspect, who is the neighbor of the young boy, lured him into his room and forcefully defiled him.
The PPRO further stated that the suspect attempted to commit suicide by stabbing himself, when angry youth in the area headed for his room, upon hearing what he did.
He, however, said the suspect did not die and is currently on admission in a clinic at the State capital, Yola, where he is receiving medical treatment.
The PPRO said “The incident was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Mayo Belwa by the victim’s father, Akure Usman alongside other members of the community.
“Preliminary investigation so far reveals that on the same date at about 11.00hrs, the victim was sighted running out of the room of the suspect. Upon inquiries, the victim narrated what the suspect had done to him.
“Angered by what the accused did, the neighbours immediately headed for the suspect’s room. But when he saw the mob coming towards his room, he attempted killing himself by stabbing himself severally in the neck and stomach.”
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Sikiru Akande had directed detectives from the State CID to take over an investigation of the case and to ensure prosecution.
The rate of sodomy is on the increase in Nigeria these days.
Last month, the Nigerian Navy (NN) sacked one Sub Lieutenant V. N. Ukpawanne with service number NN/4440, for attempted sodomy.
