Benzema Wins UEFA Men’s Player of The Year Award

Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema has won the Uefa Men’s Player of the Year Award for the 2021/22 season at the ceremony which held in Istanbul, Thursday, 25th August.

Benzema who had been prolific throughout the 2021/22 season scoring 44 goals and providing 15 assists in 46 games across all competitions won the award ahead of his teammate, Thibaut Courtios and Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne who were also nominated for the final shortlist.

The Real Madrid striker led his team to a double in the 2021/22 season as they won the league title and the Uefa Champions League.

He was the topscorer for both competitions scoring 27 goals in the La Liga division and 15 goals in the Uefa Champions League. He also scored 2 goals in the Spanish Super Cup.

The French International started the 2021/22 season in high spirits as he led France to a Uefa Nations League title against Spain back in October 2021. He was the man of the match for the finals.

On receiving the award he said,

“I’m really happy. It’s the first time I’ve won this trophy but for me the most important thing is to win trophies with the team. Mr Ancelotti is the best coach in the world; he gets it right with every player, he gives us confidence and he tells you what to do before every match”.

In other news, Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas won the UEFA Women’s Player of the year. The Blaugrana star was on top of her game as she scored 18 league goals and provided 15 assists to help Barcelona Women win the Spanish Feminine Division title.
