The two major candidates in the just concluded Kenyan presidential election, William Samoei Ruto and Raila Amolo Odinga, on Sunday spoke to their supporters using Bible Verses.

Ruto had narrowly defeated his major rival and a five time Kenyan presidential aspirant, Odinga, in an election that has birthed controversy.

Four of the seven members of the electoral Commission, including the vice chairperson of the electoral body, Juliana Cherera, refused to endorse the announcement, saying the result was “opaque”.

However, Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Wafula Chebukati had announced Ruto as the winner having got 50.49 % of votes.

Odinga, who had several times taken presidential election winners to court has rejected the election results and vowed to take legal action.

Still basking in the euphoria of victory, Ruto, went for thanksgiving service at Gathiruini Presbyterian Church Of East Africa (P.C.E.A), Githunguri Constituency, Kiambu County.

The president-elect posted several pictures he took at the event with a quote from Psalm 95:1-2.

He wrote:

Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song. Psalm 95:1-2.

Twenty minutes later, his closest rival, Odinga in what seems to be a reply to Ruto, posted a verse from Isaiah 61:8 where God said He loves justice, hate robbery, and wrongdoing.

Odinga wrote:

“For l, the Lord, love justice; I hate robbery and wrongdoing. In my faithfulness I will reward my people and make an everlasting covenant with them.” – Isaiah 61:8.
