Court Remands Ibadan Teenagers For Raping A Girl Living With Disability

Three Ibadan teenagers and a 12-year-old boy have been ordered by the Iyaganku Family Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, to be remanded in prison until September 29, 2022.

Magistrate Patricia Adetuyibi, gave the order yesterday when the four accused were brought before the court for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl living with disability.

The prosecution counsel,  Inspetor Folake Ewe, informed the court that, On July 21, 2022, at Aba Teacher, in Olodo Area, Ibadan, three of the accused aged 15, conspired and raped the 18-year-old girl who is their neighbors.
 
The 15-year-old boys informed the 12-year-old boy of their caper.

Inspired by the story of their escapades, the 12-year-old boy went to take his turn on July 27, 2022.

The Prosecution counsel further told the court that, when the boy went for his turn, “the victim’s scream attracted passers-by who got the 12-year-old arrested. His confession led to the arrest of the three other accused”

According to her, the offence contravenes the Criminal Code of Oyo State and is punishable.

While ruling on the matter, the presiding chief magistrate, Patricia Adetuyibi, did not take the plea of the defendants because of lack of jurisdiction.

However, she ordered their remand at the juvenile home.

The chief magistrate adjourned the matter to September 29, 2022, for mention after she said their case file had been sent to the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution for advice.
