An Ikeja Special Court has today sentenced, Moses Joseph, to 37 years in jail for sexually molesting a minor.

Mr Joseph was arrested and arraigned before the court by the Lagos State government.

During the trial, the prosecutor told the court that, on September 17, 2021, about 11:00 p.m, the convict indecently treated the young girl by inserting his finger in her private part.

According to the prosecutor, the accused committed the crime at No. 25, Kadiri Street, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

The prosecutor told the court that the crime was in contravention of Sections 135, 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

When the case came up, the presiding Judge, Ms Oluwatoyin Taiwo, after hearing from both the prosecutor and the defense counsel said, she found the defendant guilty of the crime, based on the substantial evidence presented before the court.

She, However, asked the convict, if he had anything to say to the court.

The convict, Mr Moses Joseph, together with the defense counsel, Henry Obidinna, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy and opt for a light sentence since the convict was a first time offender.

The defense counsel also told the court that the convict had been cooperative since the day he was arrested, and had been remorseful over the assault on the minor.

Mr Joseph, whom the defense Counsel said is the breadwinner of his family, lost his younger brother to death as a result of his arrest.

The defense counsel also informed the court that the arrest of the convict, and other things that followed, had been kept away from his aged mother.

However, the judge did not rescind the ruling.
