Court jails corps member for internet fraud

An Ilorin High Court has sentenced a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Ogbomosho, Oyo state, Mr Christopher Adetuberu, 28, for internet fraud (Yahoo Yahoo).

Mr. Adetuberu, an indigene of Ilesha, Ilesha West Local Government Area of Osun State, was arrested at Ogele area of Eyenkorin, Ilorin, where he is serving.

The corps member was arraigned before the court by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The convict, Adetuberu, who was arrested for internet fraud reportedly confessed that he joined  ‘Yahoo Yahoo Business’ in 2016 and have gained a lot from it.

According to him, he had among other things, built a house with the proceeds of the illegal activities.

Delivering judgment, the presiding Judge, Justice Ibrahim Yusuf, said he found Adetuberu guilty of the two counts of cybercrime preferred against him by the EFCC and sentenced him to two years imprisonment with an option of a fine of N200,000.

The judge said the conviction of Adetuberu would serve as a deterrent to others.

Justice Ibrahim Yusuf also ordered the corps member to forfeit his 3-Bedroom flat, a Lexus car, different brands of phones, a laptop, as well as N921, 535.49, which he acquired with the proceeds of the illegal activities to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
