Real Madrid beat Frankfurt 2-0 to claim UEFA Super Cup Title

The 14 times UEFA Champions League winners showed a level of class and resilience as they saw off German opponents, Eintracht Frankfurt in a 2-0 victory to win the title for a record-equaling fifth time.


Real Madrid’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti fielded the same starting line-up that played against Liverpool in the UCL finals in May.


The German side had a couple of chances in the first half but could not finish off as Thibaut Courtois was in an excellent form to save the shots.


The Los Blancos maintained possession and a goal from David Alaba assisted by a header from Casemiro, put them in front eight minutes before halftime.


Second half resumed with Frankfurt showing some efforts but poor displays in the final third as they could not finish off any of their chances.


Real Madrid reclaimed possession and Casemiro had his shot on goal struck off the bar on the hour mark.

Karim Benzema who has been in the form of his life, added a second goal in the 65th minute after receiving a cross from Vinicius Junior and this was enough to seal the victory for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid equaled AC Milan and rivals Barcelona’s record of winning the UEFA Super Cup for a fifth time while boss Carlo Ancelotti became the most successful manager in the competition’s history, winning the title for a record four times.


The match which was played at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, saw the semi-automated offside technology put into use for the very first time in European competition.
