Arsenal kicked off the season with a 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park Stadium to mark the first game of the 2022/23 English Premier League Season.
The Gunners came into the game with a true reflection of their superb preseason form with intense pressure on the Eagles backline. Gabriel Martineli missed an open chance in the opening stages after a deflected shot from new signing Gabriel Jesus, fell off to his feet.
It didn’t take long for the Gunners to take the lead. A cross from Oleksandr Zinchenko met Martineli who rose highest to head in from close range to score the first goal of the season and put Arsenal in front in the 20th minute of the game.
The Eagles came close to getting an equalizer before halftime with a diving header from Edouard but Aaron Ramsdale was quick to make a wonderful save.
Second half resumed with Patrick Viera’s boys looking better as they forced the Gunners back into their own half. A fine save from Ramsdale denied Eberechi Eze his first goal of the season after he received a precise pass right in the box.
Crystal Palace kept pushing but William Saliba’s resilience in the heart of the Arsenal defense prevented the Eagles from getting an equalizer.
In the 85th minute of the game, Arsenal’s wonder boy, Saka, pulled out a powerful cross into the Palace box which Marc Guehi attempted to head out but mistakenly put it in the back of his own net, giving Arsenal a 2-0 lead which was enough to seal the victory for Mikel Arteta’s boys.
